Join me on my quest for inspiration, seeking to capture and recreate the beauty that abounds in the world around us. I love to work with my hands to create sophisticated pieces that elevate your surroundings, bringing a hit of luxury, sparking lively conversations and giving your home warmth.
My passion for craft traditions and working with my hands naturally blossomed into weaving, macramé and beyond! I am constantly working to evolve my art practice and challenge my skills to higher levels. I do all things fibre; carding, spinning, knitting, weaving, macramé, natural dyeing and textile printing in my beautiful, bohemian studio in Victoria, BC, Canada. The rugged beauty of Vancouver Island, where I live, is the primary inspiration for my work. In each piece, I recreate the colours and patterns I see in the skyscapes, interpret the textures of the beach, and echo the rhythms of the ocean that surrounds me in my composition. My process is spontaneous, expressive and deeply personal.
My love of fibre began more than twenty years ago when I first learned to knit.
Largely self taught, I playfully experiment with a variety of natural materials and fibres to create one of a kind, contemporary wall hangings and unique fibre art installations that give a room depth and focus. Weaving from my heart, without a pattern in mind, I listen to the colours and textures of the materials I’m using and let them guide the direction of my pieces; coming together organically as a tactile celebration of colour and texture.
As a child of the seventies, I draw from the influences of my childhood: a bohemian aesthetic, incorporating macramé and colour palettes from the 70’s with a fresh, modern perspective that will enhance any space. These nostalgic references inspire a sense of belonging, by recalling elements of a particular time and place, and connection to the home. My intention with my work is to bring that sense of grounding and belonging to a space. My real thrill is working directly with clients on custom commissioned pieces, designed purposefully to suit their surroundings and reflect back their lifestyle, sensibilities and family values.
